Srinagar Salukis is one of the most influential Saluki kennels in the world. Founded in 1958 by Dr. Winafred Blake Lucas — psychologist, visionary, and lifelong lover of the breed — Srinagar is widely credited with bringing the Saluki into the mainstream of the American dog show world. Dr. Winafred Lucas was not only a breeder of rare distinction; she was a founding force in the Saluki world, co-founding both the American Saluki Association and the San-Angeles Saluki Club. Her vision shaped not just a kennel, but a breed's presence in America.

Over more than six decades, Srinagar has produced over 500 Champions across AKC, International, Mexican, and Canadian competition — in conformation, lure coursing, open field coursing, obedience, agility, and freestyle — and its influence extends far beyond American borders. Built on a foundation of Jen Araby bloodlines integrated with the great English kennels — Burydown, Daxlore, Knightellington, Sedeki, and Windswift — Srinagar's influence has reached kennels around the world, including the royal family of Saudi Arabia and indigenous Saluki lines in India, connecting this Los Angeles kennel to the oldest and most storied threads of the breed's living history. Above all, a devoted and loving companion temperament has always been paramount — for a Srinagar dog must be as magnificent in the home as in the ring.

Srinagar is now managed by Dr. Winafred Lucas's daughter, Dr. Afton Blake, who has carried the program forward with the same exacting standards and deep commitment to the whole dog — health, temperament, intelligence, and beauty in equal measure. The Srinagar breeding philosophy holds that a great Saluki must be capable of winning in the ring and of being a devoted, deeply bonded companion in the home.

Each Srinagar litter is bred with intention and placed with care. These are ancient dogs — noble, sensitive, and singular. They are not for every home, and finding the right match is taken as seriously as the breeding itself.
